Districts in four states accounted for 86 percent of book bans last year

Of the 2,532 instances of books being banned in school districts around the U.S., four states made up the majority of these bans. Thirty-three states saw fewer than ten bans, with PEN America finding that 19 states had no successful book challenges at all.
