Nebraska Among National Leaders in Public Benefit Denials

Less than one out of every 10 Nebraskans who applied for direct cash assistance via Temporary Assistance for Needy Families in 2020 received it. Nebraska’s denial rate for applications to get direct cash assistance surpasses that of all but three states in the nation and is nearly 16 percentage points higher than the  national average.

*Illinois reported the number of denied applications as 0 for each month accounting for the 0% denial rate.
