At first glance, the election Tuesday can appear to break down along predictable lines, with suburbs breaking Republican and the county's urban core solidly Democratic. Look closer, though, and Allegheny County voters delivered a more nuanced verdict, with thousands of voters across hundreds of precincts voting for both a Republican and Democrat. One of the highest-turnout municipal elections in decades showcased a deeply engaged constituency that bucked the trend of increasing political tribalism.
