Recent Canada geese deaths in New Jersey

More than 1,100 sick or dead wild birds were reported to the state Department of Environmental Protection between Saturday, Feb. 14 and Monday, Feb. 16. Almost all the reports involved Canada geese.

Dead Canada geese were reported in the following locations over the past weekend: Holmdel, Manalapan and Matawan in Monmouth County; Basking Ridge in Somerset County; Hainesport, Burlington County; Edison, Middlesex County; and Sicklerville, Camden County.

Testing is ongoing but state officials say bird flu is highly suspected to be the cause of recent wild bird mortality.
