Most Americans say they want their ideal political party to focus on affordability and general wellbeing, don't reference ideological issue positions

Categorization of U.S. adults into one of five buckets based on open-ended text responses to the question "In a few words, what would your ideal political party argue for or believe in?"

Data: Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll of 2,038 U.S. adults conducted Nov. 12–14, 2025.

Respondents were placed into each bucket based on their primary response to the question. If a voter mentioned "kitchen-table" issues or did not use ideological language in their response, they were put in the first category. If they mentioned an issue position clearly on the ideological left or right, or otherwise used ideological language (e.g., 'income for all' or ''MAGA') they were placed in the respective bucket. Respondents who used words like "moderate" or "centrist" or described issue positions on both sides of the political aisle were considered moderates. Finally, respondents who mentioned being anti-system/anti-elite were combined with respondents who did not mention any political issue, or were generally anti-politics or anti-party, into a final bucket. The chart excludes answers that were blank or did not contain a germane answer, like "don't know."
