Year-to-Year Changes in U.S. Property Crime Rates

This chart shows the percentage change in major property crime categories in the United States from 2015 through 2026. Burglary rates declined steadily through most of the period, with particularly large decreases between 2017 and 2019 and again after 2023. Property crime overall also declined across much of the decade, while motor vehicle theft rose during the pandemic years before falling again in the mid-2020s.
