Florida's Surging COVID-19 Cases

The number of people in Florida testing positive for COVID-19 has skyrocketed. In early July, an average of just under 2,000 new cases were reported each day. By the end of the month, that number had increased more than eightfold to one of the highest daily averages of new cases since the pandemic began, data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention show.

Unusually high spikes or gaps in daily new case data generally fall on holidays that can disrupt timely reporting and sometimes result in multiple days of data being reported together.
