Biggest drop in school enrollment in a generation

School enrollment, particularly in the youngest grades, has dropped by more than 35,000 students in one year, bucking the years-long trend of growing student population. Researchers believe the coronavirus pandemic has largely driven the decline but are still trying to explain all the factors behind it. They agree it will pose a significant challenge for students’ educational progress and school funding.
