Pittsburgh’s largest employment sector in 2025 was education and health services, a broad category that includes universities, hospitals, healthcare providers and social assistance organizations.

Education and health services was the largest sector, with about 268,400 jobs. Trade, transportation and utilities followed with about 207,900 jobs, then professional and business services with about 186,300 jobs. Leisure and hospitality had about 121,400 jobs, government had about 117,400, manufacturing had about 87,400, financial activities had about 78,600 and construction had about 58,200.
