IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, REALIGNMENT BARELY FELT IN THE JAILS

Contra Costa County has long used split sentencing, where offenders serve a short time in jail and most of their sentences on probation. As a result, realignment added few inmates to the jail’s population but increased the caseload for probation by several hundred people.
