Latinx residents have lower vaccination rates even after controlling for age.
Estimated indirect age-adjusted vaccination (individuals that received 1+ dose) rates vs crude rates by race and ethnicity in Massachusetts as of April 6, 2021
To estimate age-adjusted vaccination rates, age-specific vaccination rates were multiplied by age-specific population shares for each racial/ethnic group, resulting in an "expected vaccination rate." Standard vaccination ratios were calculated by dividing crude vaccination rates by expected vaccination rates for each racial/ethnic group. These ratios were multiplied by the overall crude vaccination rate for Massachusetts, resulting in an indirect adjusted vaccination rate for COVID-19 by race. This methodology was adapted from UMass Donohue Institute and APM Research Lab. Crude rate may differ from DPH rate because ACS 2015-19 data was used for population estimates.
