Table 7/18: In which states is Covid-19 getting out of control?

The states with the highest number of new cases per 100K population during the week of July 11th are shown in the dark blue bars below -- Florida (with a population of 20.6 million residents) had the highest per-capita number (403, a pandemic record for any week in any state so far), followed by Arizona and Louisiana. Looking at the four-week trends, you'll see many states that more than doubled their new cases per week over the period, including Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, and many others.

DANGER ZONE: When hospital systems were starting to fail in certain parts of certain states in March and April (i.e., ICU beds full and corpses piling up), those states were seeing about 150 to 200 new cases per 100K pop. per week. (Caveat: Less testing of the general population was being done at the time, and the average age of new cases is younger, so the corresponding danger # of new cases per week may be higher today.)
