Crimes per 1,000 trending down in Oglethorpe County

Since David Gabriel took office as Oglethorpe County Sheriff in 2017, crimes per 1,000 residents have decreased, according to GBI data. In his first year, the county saw a 9.21% increase in crime, but since then, the county hasn't had any year with a crime rate higher than 2016. Gabriel, entering his third term in 2025, said his goal is to "maintain what we've gained."
