Are data centers being proposed in areas with reduced local news capacity?

Many data centers are coming to Missouri counties with reduced capacity for local news to cover them. Of 14 proposed data center sites identified by Missouri Business Alert, 10 are in counties with only one or two local newspapers. Some of these outlets have only a single news reporter. 

Information on newspapers by county was tallied using trackers from the Medill School of Journalism and the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Data center sites were identified by cross referencing local reporting with online sources, including Cleanview, Data Center Map and FracTracker Alliance.
