Increased concern over crime since 2022 federal election

The percentage of those surveyed who listed "reducing crime and maintaining law and order" among their top three issues has increased since the last federal election.

An arrow plot shows the percentage point difference between 2022 and 2024 for various groups including Australia, Sydney, Regional NSW, ACT, Melbourne, Regional Victoria, Brisbane, Regional Queensland, Adelaide and Regional South Australia. The biggest difference was in Brisbane (+18.6) and the smallest in Sydney (+5.2), while the largest percentage for 2024 was in Regional Queensland, were 38.1% listed crime as a top issue. The lowest was in ACT (14.5%).
This survey polled a representative cross-section of 14,522 electors in June 2022 and September 2024. Results for Perth, Regional WA, Hobart, Regional Tasmania and Darwin/Alice Springs have been excluded as the difference between surveys fell within the margin of error.
