Nixon started his first term with a 59% job approval rating, and this term was characterized by ratings mostly above 50%, including a presidency-high 67% in November 1969 (duplicated in January 1973 at the beginning of his second term). His rating dropped to 49% in February 1971 and hovered in the high 40%/low 50% range until it rose to 56% in March 1972, his reelection year. From then until his reelection, his rating was in the high 50% and low 60% range, including 62% in November 1972. After the January 1973 high of 67%, his rating dropped precipitously to 48% in April 1973, 39% in July 1973, and 27% in October 1973. His rating stayed mostly in the 20% range thereafter, including his final (and presidency-low) two readings of 24% in July and August 1974, just before he resigned.
