Home prices have risen much faster than incomes

In 1960, the median home value in Hampton Roads was about $11,000 -- approximately twice the median annual household income at the time ($5,200). Last year, the median home value in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metro area was about $285,000 -- approximately four times the area's median household income.
