Americans' Dissatisfaction With Level of Immigration Into the U.S.
Based on U.S. adults. Trend shows breakdown of views for those who are dissatisfied with the level of immigration into the country, with preferences for whether they want immigration increased, decreased or kept the same.

Trend from 2001 to 2023 in different reasons Americans are dissatisfied with level of immigration in the U.S. The largest group in 2023 (40%) is dissatisfied because they want less immigration, while 8% are dissatisfied because they want more. 15% are dissatisfied but want the level to stay the same. A desire to decrease immigration has historically been the most widely held sentiment among Americans who are dissatisfied with U.S. immigration levels, but the % dissatisfied dipped starting after 2016 (43%) to 23% in 2019 and 19% in 2021. Since then, dissatisfaction has risen each year, to 35% in 2022 and the current 40%.
