Commonwealth government debt ($b)

Around $271b in gross debt and $161b in net debt had accrued when the Coalition was elected in 2013. The totals now stand at $881.6b and $631.5b respectively.

Gross debt shows the "face value" of government securities on issue at the end of month. Net debt shows general government sector net debt.
