The 5 Deadliest Months on U.S. Roads
October was the deadliest month on U.S. roads in 2024 with 3,620 fatalities, narrowly edging out August at 3,611 and September at 3,528, and notably outpacing the traditional summer travel season entirely. June and May tied for fifth place at 3,461 deaths each. The fact that fall months lead the ranking, rather than peak summer vacation months, points to factors like earlier sunsets, back to school and holiday travel patterns, and seasonal weather shifts.
