Methodological note: the map shows countries where media in exile have moved to or were founded by journalists in exile. It is important to note, however, that: 1) When data on the official registration of a particular media outlet was not publicly accessible, it was chosen to indicate the country where the founder, editor in chief or most of the employees of that media outlet reside; 2) for 15 media out of 102 it was not possible, to establish their official location (last update: October 2, 2023). Not only is this information not disclosed for obvious security reasons, but many media outlets in exile tend to operate as an agile, rhizomatic network of individuals and small groups that has no permanent address or fixed location.
