Syria's cotton exports have not recovered from the war

Exports ranged between about USD 144 million and USD 285 million a year from 2005 to 2009, then peaked at USD 475 million in 2010. They fell to USD 188 million in 2011 and USD 49 million in 2012, before brief rebounds to USD 124 million in 2013 and USD 84 million in 2014. From 2015 onward they stayed below USD 60 million, with a low of USD 6.4 million in 2019. Exports have risen slowly since then, reaching USD 56.9 million in 2025, about an eighth of the 2010 peak.
