South Carolina hemp growers have ditched the crop

In 2020, 265 permits were given to grow hemp by the Department of Agriculture. Due to an oversaturated market, many farmers left the crop behind. Only 80 permits were given out this year.

Only 20 farmers were allowed to grow hemp by law in 2018. More than 100 applicants were declined.
