Answer options to this question include – getting better, the same, which is volunteered, and getting worse. In 2022, a record-high 90% of Afghans say their local economy is getting worse, while just 5% say it is getting better and 4% volunteer that it is the same. The "getting worse" responses have fluctuated throughout the trend, with as few as 16% saying their local economy was getting worse in 2010, rising steadily to 67% in 2014 and then declining to 41% in 2016. Since 2017, at least 70% have said their local economy was getting worse.
