Note: Mortality rate is the number of people who died in the hospital compared to the total number of people discharged from the hospital. Discharges missing discharge disposition are excluded from the numerator and denominator of the in-hospital mortality rate. On October 1, 2015, the United States transitioned from ICD-9-CM1 to ICD-10-CM/PCS2. 2015 values are based on the first three quarters of data using ICD-9-CM coding.
