For years, many patients in need of acute psychiatric care have endured long waits in hospital emergency rooms. The state has taken steps to address the issue in recent years, in part spurred by a court order.

This reflects adult patients being held on involuntary emergency admissions in New Hampshire hospitals and children held on voluntary admissions while awaiting acute mental health care.
