Covering the Unexpected

The share of U.S. adults who could cover a $400 emergency expense with cash or an equivalent ticked up during the pandemic, thanks to government aid, but is still far too low, according to the New York Fed.

Equivalent may include charging to a credit card that will be paid off at the next statement. Unless otherwise noted, data is as of the fourth quarter of each year.
