Sheriffs in 20 Wisconsin counties have signed 287(g) agreements with ICE. In at least two of those counties — Sauk and Winnebago — the November general election will give voters a chance to weigh in on their sheriffs' partnerships with ICE.

287(g) agreements allow local law enforcement agencies to perform limited immigration enforcement functions under ICE supervision. In Wisconsin, those agreements give ICE additional capacity to take custody of immigrants already being held in county jails.
