The Inspectorate provides two sets of numbers in relation to Cat A complaints; Cat A notifications received in 2020 and Cat A complaints relating to 2020. For the former, the Inspectorate received notification of 90 Cat A complaints from ten prisons in 2020. The discrepancy occurs for a number of reasons such as notifications received in January relating to December of the previous year, unreported complaints from prior years and complaints which are re-categorised.
