The biggest US sources of CO2 emissions
The vast majority of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, about 93%, come from the combustion of fossil fuels. These are the sources of the 5,053 million megatons of CO2 released in 2022.
Chart shows 35% from transportation, 30% from electric power, 16% from industry, 7% from residential buildings and 5% from commercial buildings.
