How Far Does Pay Go for Adjuncts?

Salary and institution data come from the Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Survey for the 2022-23 academic year. Average salaries represent full-time, nonmedical instructional staff with the ranks of "lecturer" or "instructor". Cost-of-living data come from the Council for Community and Economic Research’s (C2ER) May 2024 Cost of Living Index. Only Title IV, degree-granting institutions in the United States with 20 or more adjuncts are included in this analysis; special-focus colleges are excluded. Pay is standardized as a nine-month contract.
