Medicaid coverage, per state
Medicaid covers nearly half of Puerto Rico residents, the largest share among the states and territories measured.
This map shows the percentage of residents per state and territory covered by Medicaid. At the top is Puerto Rico with 47%, New Mexico with 34%, Louisiana 32% and New York with nearly 29%. The average among states is 21%. The states with the least all have less than 15% coverage: Kansas, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.
