States with veto-proof legislatures

A total of 28 states have a veto proof majority — 9 are Democratic-controlled and 19 are Republican-controlled. Five other states are near a veto-proof majority.

Note: Louisiana and North Carolina recently crossed the veto-proof majority threshold through special elections and/or party switches. South Carolina could have a veto-proof majority now if the independent in the state senate votes with the Republican majority in the chamber. Nebraska’s legislature is officially non-partisan.
