Nearly all new electricity generating capacity in the US in 2024 will come from renewables and battery storage

Utilities added 20.2 gigawatts of utility-scale electric generating capacity in the first half of 2024, and are expected to add another 42.6 gigawatts of capacity in the second half of the year. One gigawatt is roughly equivalent to the capacity of one large commercial nuclear power plant.

Stacked bars showing that solar, wind and battery storage will account for more than 90% of all expected capacity additions in 2024.
