Minimum down payment for an average home in 2025 vs. total rent for an average home over the last 5 years

Zoocasa used Rent.ca's average one-bedroom rental prices from February 2020 to February 2024 to calculate the total rent a person would have paid over five years. That total sum was then compared to the cost of a down payment a February 2025 homebuyer would need to purchase the average-priced home in each respective city.
