To protect students and staff against the coronavirus, each of the district’s schools will develop its own operations plan, though some rules are universal. Here are selected highlights from the plan.
Health monitoring |
Students and staff are expected to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone with a fever above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or other symptoms of the coronavirus must avoid school buildings. |
Social distancing |
Classroom capacity limited to 25 people “when feasible.” When students cannot be kept six feet apart, plastic glass barriers will be “prioritized.” Staff must keep at least six feet of social distance at all times. |
Face coverings |
Students and staff must wear approved face coverings. There will be "mask breaks" at certain times, such as meals. Coverings include disposable and cloth masks, neck gaiters and face shields. |
Cleaning |
High-touch surfaces, including hand rails, doorknobs and bathroom fixtures to be cleaned every four hours. Hand sanitizer stations will be added around the buildings. At the end of each school day, classrooms and other spaces will undergo fog or spray disinfecting. |
Positive cases |
In the event of a suspected infection, areas may be closed off from use for 24 hours, then undergo a deep cleaning. Students who develop symptoms at school will be assessed by a nurse and isolated until able to leave by means other than a school bus. |
Transportation |
District school buses will have hand sanitizer, assigned seats and social distancing. Students are required to wear masks while riding. |
Visitors |
No visitors, excluding contractors or delivery workers, will be permitted to enter schools. Approved visitors, such as parents attending essential meetings, will be permitted if a remote meeting cannot be held. |
