These States Lead the Nation in Deadly Winter Driving Behaviors
This table reflects motor vehicle fatalities occurring during the winter months (December, January, February, and March) from 2019 through 2023, broken out by three dangerous driving behaviors: speeding, distracted driving, and alcohol-impaired driving (defined as crashes involving a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher). Fatalities are counted when the listed behavior was a contributing factor in the crash. Because this analysis is limited to winter months, totals do not represent full-year traffic fatalities and should not be directly compared to annual state-level crash statistics.
