Drug Coverage and Restrictions for Medicare Plans
Data as of February 2025. For Medicare, we calculated medication coverage by comparing the number of drugs covered on each plan to those on the “best plan” for Medicare. The “best plan” is defined as the total unique number of drugs covered across all Medicare plans. We then averaged coverage proportions across all Medicare plans, weighted by enrollment. The share of restricted medications is the enrollment-weighted average of covered drugs requiring prior authorization, step therapy, and/or quantity limits.
