National Endowment for the Humanities appropriations

President Lyndon Johnson on Sept. 29, 1965, signed the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act into law, the culmination of a movement calling for the federal government to invest in culture, just as it had with science.

Fiscal Year 2013 was less enacted appropriation and rescission. Fiscal Year 1976 switched the federal fiscal year to a Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 period; an extra transition quarter was included.
