Reducing Felony Charges

This chart shows the percent of felony referrals charged as misdemeanors and the percent of felony filings later resolved as misdemeanors. Prosecutors have a responsibility to screen referrals thoroughly and to ensure, when possible, that initial charges fairly reflect the gravity of the offense.

The referred charge level is derived from the Case Class and includes all cases with a "CR" case number; the filed charge level represents the most serious charge filed in a case. Referred cases grouped by referral date; resolved cases grouped by disposition date.
