State Organ Donation Performance

Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) each have a regional monopoly to work with families of potential organ donors and get organs to those who need them. More than a dozen OPOs are under congressional investigation for mismanagement, waste, or abuse and the majority have a grade of "underperforming" or "failing."

Some states have multiple OPOs with varying performance, in that case the average is shown. Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming do not have transplants centers. Patients are reflected in their transplant center state, which may not be their state of residence.
