Crime severity index by city

The latest CSI scores, and the trends since 1998, for 40 census metropolitan areas tracked by StatsCan. (Alberta cities are highlighed in yellow.)

Note each city's line chart has a different scale on the vertical axis.

In the Crime Severity Index, all crimes are assigned a weight based on their seriousness, based on actual sentences handed down by courts. More serious crimes are assigned higher weights, less serious offences are assigned lower weights.
