Number of cattle ranches in the U.S.

The number of cattle ranches has decreased by more than 400,000 since the early 1980s. As of 2017, large ranches and feedlots made up 10 percent of all cattle operations, but owned 56 percent of the country's cattle inventory.

Data represents "total cattle farms with inventory" from each Census of Agriculture published since 1969.
