True political independent voters are rare in the US

While many Americans like to think of themselves as free and independent thinkers about politics, the data reveals that most tend to pick candidates from one political party or the other. In 2020 only about 20% of American voters were pure independents, people who truly do not vote consistently for one party or the other.
