Intangible investment varies more within Europe than between Europe and the US

France (21%), Sweden (21%) and the US (20%) are neck and neck. The UK and Netherlands aren't far behind. The laggards are Germany (13%), Italy (12%) and Spain (10%). The blue segments are the intangibles national statistical offices treat as investment and so include in GDP (R&D, software, databases, capitalised under the international SNA-2008 standard). The orange segments are intangibles treated as current expense and leave out of GDP entirely.
