Enrollment in San Francisco public schools compared with the total number of children aged 5-17 in the city.

"Not in Public Schools" is the difference between the school-aged population (i.e. those aged 5-17) and the total public school enrollment. It includes those enrolled in private schools and those not enrolled in any school for any reason. Enrollment in the County Office of Education (SFCOE) not available before 1990. Enrollment in charter schools was zero in 1990 and earlier. Charter school enrollment excludes Five Keys.
