Mail-in ballot status by state

Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia currently allow overseas mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day to be counted after Election Day; 16 states and DC give the same allowance for mail-in ballots cast in the U.S.

Note: The statuses of two states have changed in the past year. During the 2024 elections Mississippi allowed overseas ballots to be counted after Election Day and Utah allowed domestic ballots to be counted after Election Day.
