Thermal anomalies in North Korea in March-May, 2024

NASA's Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), an instrument aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite, detects thermal anomalies (usually fires) on the Earth's surface in near real-time.

NK PRO acknowledges the use of data from NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS), part of NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). Pixel intensity is based on the VIIRS I-4 channel brightness temperature of the fire pixel measured in Kelvin, not the physical extent of an anomaly.
