White Actors Continue to Dominate Oscars Acting Categories

Nominees for the top acting categories of the Academy Awards from 2000 to 2022 show that actors considered best in the trade are still largely those of European heritage.

Minority actors made up 18.6% of nominees from the four major acting categories within this time frame.

Actors are classified by ethnicities they self-identified with or are largely classified with. Actors who claim a small percentage of Indigenous heritage with largely European backgrounds are classified as white.

Actors with mixed heritage from two or more non-European countries are classified as actors with "two or more" ethnicities.
