Two large factors contributed to Philadelphia's population growth in 2024. Net immigration — the difference between immigrants moving into Philadelphia and city residents moving abroad — has more than doubled since 2022. At the same time, Philadelphia's net loss among domestic movers — every year, far more people move out of Philadelphia than move in — was nearly cut in half from 2023 to 2024. Combined, the rise in immigration and the drop in residents leaving the city allowed Philadelphia to add nearly 6,000 residents in 2024 among all movers.
